Youth Residential Home
Youth Residential Care Services
J&IS also operates a Youth Residential Home for children who need a safe and structured place to live when foster care or family placement is not possible. The Residential Home offers daily guidance, supervision, and support from trained staff to help each child build stability, routine, and resilience.
Objective, Mission & Vision ,
Objective
The J&IS Youth Residential Home aims to ensure that the needs of youth who cannot live with their own families are fully met. In addition to providing food, shelter, ensuring education and opportunities for play and leisure, the Youth Residential Home offers a caring and structured environment where young people can grow, heal, and develop.
The objective of the Youth Residential Home is to:
Ensure that the spiritual needs of youth are respected and supported.
Through these objectives, the J&IS Youth Residential Home seeks to provide each young person with the stability, care, and guidance needed to build a safe foundation for personal growth and a successful transition into adulthood.
Mission
Through structured daily care, positive role models, and individualized support, we aim to promote personal development, resilience, and responsibility, while safeguarding the wellbeing of each youth.
Vision
The Youth Residential Home aims to serve as a temporary but meaningful place of stability, growth, and preparation, supporting youth as they build the skills and confidence needed for a successful future.
Target Group
The Youth Residential Home provides care for male and female youth between the ages of 13 and 18 who are under protective measures and can be supported in an open residential setting. This includes youth who must be removed from their home environment and who are expected to benefit from a structured, caring, and supportive living environment.
Youth placements are referred through Judicial & Institutional Services (J&IS) and the Court of Guardianship.
Youth placed in the Youth Residential Home may have backgrounds that include:
- Youth at risk.
- Youth who have been rejected, neglected, abandoned or abused.
- Youth experiencing immediate crisis situations.
By providing a safe and structured residential setting for these youth, the Youth Residential Home aims to stabilize their situation, address immediate risks, and support their emotional, social, and developmental needs while working toward safe family reunification, placement in a foster family or a stable transition into society.
Donate
We accept both in-kind and monetary donations that directly benefit children in foster care. The Youth Residential Home is subsidized by the Government of St. Maarten through the Ministry of Justice and by the St. Maarten Development Foundation (SMDF). Nevertheless, additional support and donations remain essential to enhance daily care, educational opportunities, recreational activities, and overall wellbeing for the children and youth in our care.
